Federal Programs for Small Business

While small businesses have been an important part of the country’s economy since the nation’s beginnings, it took the 1930’s Great Depression for the Federal government to finally establish a specific agency to administer assistance programs.  The Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC), created by President Herbert Hoover in 1932 to alleviate the financial crisis of the Great Depression eventually evolved into the US Small Business Administration in the 1950’s.  Soon after, various Federal agencies began adopting programs and services directed at helping the small business entrepreneur.  Over the years new programs were initiated and old ones abandoned.  This section focuses are the prime programs focused at helping small business that are beginning....that are expanding...or just need financial or management assistance.

We will continue to update this information as the Federal government formulates new programs and services geared to small business.
