Greetings, My name is Nicole Warner, Senior Program Manager for Operation HOPE. This year music mogul, Quincy Jones, and Ambassador Andrew Young joined with our CEO John Hope Bryant to turn up the volume on financial literacy in America through the FIVE MILLION KIDS Initiative (5MK). 5MK is a national, inter-organizational movement designed to raise awareness and relevance for financial literacy. Quincy and Ambassador Young are asking leaders and organizations all around the country, who are dedicated to the work of financial literacy and economic empowerment, to make a pledge of action @ www.5millionkids.org/yourpledge to the FIVE MILLION KIDS Initiative. 5MK has five objectives: 1. Empower five million youth and adults with financial literacy education 2. Open fifty thousand savings accounts for youth 3. Open fifty thousand savings accounts for adults 4. Secure fifty million dollars in earned income tax credit (EITC) for qualifying adults 5. Engage two hundred fifty thousand volunteers to teach financial literacy in communities around the nation The past few years have shown us the disaster that can occur when citizens of our nation are financially illiterate and economically disempowered. The need for financial literacy is evident, and the efforts to advance it are growing, but we need to take it to another level. Every major issue has a face. Education has the America's Promise Alliance. Global change has the Clinton Global Initiative. Financial literacy now has the FIVE MILLION KIDS Initiative. See the work we are doing with Gallup through the Gallup-HOPE Financial Literacy Index to prove the quantitative and qualitative impact of financial literacy. See the work we are doing with other national financial literacy organizations to advance the cause of financial literacy on Capitol Hill. Together we will bring financial literacy to the forefront of the minds of everyone in this nation-politicians, educators, business leaders, community advocates, parents, and children. We already have pledges to educate over 120,000 youth and adults, engage over 11,000 volunteers, and open hundreds of youth and adult savings accounts. Will you join the movement? Make your pledge of action to advance the cause of financial literacy in America. What do you receive when you make your pledge? * Signed commendation from Quincy Jones, Ambassador Andrew Young, and John Hope Bryant * Recognition as an official 5MK partner on our website * Recognition of the great work you are doing in your community through HOPE's social media platforms * A quarterly electronic 5MK newsletter filled with collaboration opportunities and detailing the work that our partners are doing all around the country including the findings from our groundbreaking Gallup-HOPE Financial Literacy Index What else will you receive? * The opportunity to participate in a series of virtual meetings we will be hosting throughout the year about making financial literacy relevant in America. * The opportunity to be one of the selected partners highlighted in our quarterly, international HOPE Newsletter. * The opportunity to be invited to one of our nationally renowned HOPE financial forums.
