The North American Students of Cooperation (NASCO), headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is seeking an Executive Director. *Deadline to apply: November 15.* *Download job description (pdf).*<http://nasco.coop/docs/jobs/NASCO_ED...ption2010.pdf> The Executive Director, in partnership with the Board of Directors and Program Directors, is responsible for the organizationʼs consistent achievement of its mission/goals and will also have day-to-day responsibility for program development and administration, communications, personnel, volunteers, and budget/accounting. NASCO is a 501(c)3 nonprofit association of cooperatives in Canada and the U.S., which serves student and community-based organizations that embrace community and cooperative education. NASCO, founded in 1968, has grown to include several affiliated organizations, whose combined mission is to organize and educate affordable group-equity cooperatives and their members for the purpose of promoting a community-oriented cooperative movement. To this end, NASCO provides its member cooperatives with operational and asset management assistance, and supports the development of new cooperatives. NASCO teaches leadership skills, provides information, and serves as the central link facilitating the fruition of the cooperative vision within the group-equity sector. The ideal candidate will have: • Degree from a 4-year college or University, or equivalent experience • Experience working with co-operative communities, college students, and young adults • Experience in fundraising and public relations • Experience in non-profit/cooperative management, including accounting • Experience working with a non-profit board of directors • Experience with collaborative or consensus-based decision-making • Familiarity with property management, real estate financing, or community development In addition, the ideal candidate will have abilities to: • Work with persons from diverse backgrounds • Work with people of all sexual orientations and gender identities • Work as a team member • Effectively communicate in a variety of formats • Develop, implement, and evaluate programs • Proficiently operate computer software (word processing, site administration, database, accounting) for use in a nonprofit setting *NASCO does not discriminate on any basis including sexual orientation, race, creed, color, religion, gender identification, sex, national origin, disability, veteran status, or familial status. Women and people of color are encouraged to apply.* * Email cover letter and resume by November 15, 2010 to: jobs[at]nasco.coop* *Position Description* *Position Title:* Executive Director *Position Summary: *Serves as central coordinating officer for the NASCO Family of organizations, with responsibility for fundraising, planning, administration, and management of for NASCOʼs day-today activities, personnel, and programs. * Reports to: *NASCO Family Personnel Committee *Principal Functions and Responsibilities:* 1. Carry out policies and instructions as developed by the NASCO Board of Directors and its affiliate organizations. 2. Maintain professional standards and practices in all aspects of representation and service. 3. Follow and participate in executing and developing the Strategic and Fundraising plans, as directed by the Personnel Committee and Boards of Directors. 4. In consultation with the Personnel Committee and appropriate Program Directors, the Executive Director shall: • Plan and supervise the programs and activities of NASCO • Manage the normal, day-to-day affairs of NASCO • Provide or ensure sound accounting practices for the NASCO Family of organizations • Administer Membership (recruitment, billing, membership card distribution, etc.) • Identify, develop, and monitor sources of revenue for NASCO • Develop and implement public relations efforts on behalf of NASCO 5. In partnership with Board members and Program Directors, act as a representative and spokesperson for NASCO to other cooperative or community organizations, the public, government agencies, education organizations and foundations on local, national, and international levels. 6. Coordinate personnel and volunteers for NASCO, emphasizing participatory management. 7. In consultation with the Program Directors and/or Board-appointed officers, assist in the preparation and financial reporting of NASCOʼs budgets. 8. Attend Board and other meetings, as required. 9. Supervise preparations for Annual General Meeting 10.
