Default Question about Food Market Financing

Original message from: CarolCoren@aol.com

I am curious as to who among CDFIs and other private investment groups is
working or is prepared to start working on programs to deploy funds sought
for the CDFI Fund in the US FY2011 budget. We are working on a significant
food desert project in the midwest and cannot locate a CDFI with whom we
and the groups we are working with can collaborate. Your responses are
welcome as the ventures we are helping to develop will likely be formed as L3Cs.

Carol,

There are two things that come to mind Slow Money movement, google it. The
other is a new market platform to facilitate such financing either directly
via a stock or debt offering or indirectly by a CDFI raising capital on the
platform to then loan to the project. Its called www.missionmarkets.com and
it will be launched within 60 days. Investors will also have the ability to
sell their stock or debt.
The USDA also has an excellent guarantee program now for this type of
project.

Don't hesitate to write them, this is what they are building the platform
for.

We have been doing market analysis and feasibility studies for organizations and communities in the food desert. A good market analysis goes a long ways in helping the dialog with the bankers.
