Does anyone know of effective organizations in the San Francisco Bay-area that work with homeowners struggling with sub-prime mortgages and who need financial or technical assistance with workouts, refi, etc.? I am thinking credit counselors, non-profit or govt programs for low-income or first-time home buyers*and the like. thanks for any leads! The Homeownership Preservation Foundation national hotline serves as a reputable clearinghouse and referral source for local help.
Call: *1-888-995-HOPE Online: http://www.995hope.org/ and http://www.foreclosurehelpandhope.org/ Another possibility is to contact a local affiliate of NeighborWorks America: * http://www.nw.org/network/Utilities/NWOLookup.asp While there are/may be other sources, be cautious of referring to sources that you aren't certain are reputable. I direct an organization called Housing and Economic Rights Advocates, in Oakland, California.* We're a non-profit, and we provide trainings and technical support statewide.* We also provide consumer workshops and individual counseling in the SF Bay Area for homeowners and homebuyers and do some litigation for folks.* We work with the SF DBT collaborative, and Oakland and Contra Costa anti-predatory lending collaboratives.* There are a number of HUD-certified housing counseling agencies in the area doing a lot of good work.*
* What are your goals?* Is there a project you're working on? * Maeve Elise Brown Housing and Economic Rights Advocates (heraca.org) Joy Thormodsgard <joyt@gotdebt.org> wrote: Quote:

Hello
*I am sure there are several but one in particular that has a strong track record in this regard is CCCS of San Francisco. They are working closely with consumers and loan servicers to assist them in avoiding foreclosure through early delinquency intervention and counseling and assistance in working with their loan servicer. They are also one of the partner organizations*in the Homeownership Preservation Foundation's network that supports telephonic counseling though the HOPE hotline 1-888-995-HOPE. This toll free number is available to all consumers 24/7 in english and spanish free of charge*and connects them to a trained counselor immediately. To find out more here are a couple of links. http://www.995hope.org/ http://www.cccssf.org/ * * From: bounce-1750687-5852404@list.cornell.edu [mailto:bounce-1750687-5852404@list.cornell.edu] On Behalf Of DEversley-PEDP Sent: Thursday, August 30, 2007 10:23 AM To: communitydevelopmentbanking-L@cornell.edu Subject: Home Owner assistance in the SF-Bay area Hello Folks Does anyone know of effective organizations in the San Francisco Bay-area that work with homeowners struggling with sub-prime mortgages and who need financial or technical assistance with workouts, refi, etc.?
