CDVCA 1999 Annual Conference and Pre-Conference Introductory Training
12/13/99 -12/15/99 Sheraton Seattle Hotel & Towers, Seattle, Washington The Community Development Venture Capital Alliance (CDVCA) will hold its Annual Conference in Seattle, Washington on December 14 and 15, 1999. The program will feature a new business school-style training case study written especially for this conference, which explores an investment made by Kentucky Highlands Investment Corp. Learn the nuts and bolts of a real-life workout situation by analyzing the portfolio company and creating, then debating, your own workout plan. Other program highlights include experienced practitioners talking about raising their first and second funds; a discussion about the types of social returns sought by providers of capital; a plenary session entitled, "The Walking Wounded and Other War Stories: Lessons Learned from Difficult Deals; and a dinner reception at the Seattle Space Needle. In addition, the conference provides opportunities to build relationships with practitioners in the field. A full-day training, Introduction to Community Development Venture Capital, will immediately precede the conference on December 13. Learn about the basics of community development venture capital from an all-star cast of practitioners. The course will address the unique challenges faced by organizations seeking to organize, structure and raise capital for a venture fund; develop deal flow and make investments; manage a portfolio and exit investments; and invest in economically distressed communities. It will also provide the opportunity to participate in the analysis of a case study focusing on Northeast Ventures, Inc. If you missed this session in the past or would like a refresher, join us before the main conference begins for this introductory course.
