Position Announcement: Mortgage Industry Analyst
The Center for Responsible Lending (see www.responsiblelending.org) was created in 2002 to protect homeownership and family wealth by working to eliminate predatory lending and other abusive financial practices. CRL is a nonprofit, nonpartisan research and policy organization that promotes responsible lending practices and access to fair terms of credit for low-wealth families. The Center is an affiliate of Self-Help (see www.self-help.org), a community development lender founded in 1980 that creates and protects ownership opportunities for low-wealth families through home and small business ownership. It has provided over $3 billion dollars in financing to help over 37,000 low-wealth borrowers buy homes, build businesses and strengthen community resources. This position will be based in the Center's Durham, NC office. Principal Responsibilities: The Mortgage Industry Analyst will conduct research to support legislative proposals, public relations efforts, and other strategies to change abusive lending practices in the financial services industry. Responsibilities include monitoring and reporting on developments in the mortgage industry, gathering competitive intelligence on major companies, analyzing specific company financial results and operational practices, and conducting research on the extent and impact of predatory lending practices. This position will also require developing and maintaining relationships with key individuals with major mortgage lenders and mortgage industry groups. Requirements: * Five or more years experience in mortgage lending. * Strong skills and experience in market research. * Ability to work well as part of a team and in a diverse group of people * Self-starter, able to initiate new projects, juggle work efficiently and work independently * MBA or graduate degree in Finance, Economics, or Public Policy preferred * Experience in mortgage industry relations a plus.
