I can not help but think that the efforts on Capitol Hill in Washington
by Chairman James A. Leach (R-Iowa), Representative Marge Roukena (R-New Jersey), et al, supported by Robert R. Davis, Ed Yingling, et al, to kill off the S&Ls is not in the best interests of the American people. This post transferred from the cdb-l mailing list |

Roukema (NJ) and it is not in the best interests. They are not proposing an
alternative to large multi-tiered banks. This post transferred from the cdb-l mailing list |

Washington seems to be shooting at OTS with a scatter gun. BIF/SAIF problem
resolution has become the cloak to kill off community banking. While House and Senate approaches differ, the mutuality issue is critical to the survival of community based institutions. If they kill mutuality, must community mutual institutions become credit unions to avoid becoming branches of large banks? The mutual charter assures independence to serve a community and to protect the community in allocation of credit. This post transferred from the cdb-l mailing list |

Without it the citizens lose out. Without them, the credit union (not just mutual, but a co-operative) becomes the only option. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- This post transferred from the cdb-l mailing list |
