Position: Program Manager
Availability: August 30, 2004 Employer: New York City Financial Network Action Consortium (NYCfNAC) The New York City Financial Network Action Consortium (NYCfNAC), a nonprofit organization and an intermediary Community Development Financial institution, was established in 1999 to strengthen the provision of affordable, comprehensive financial services and credit to New York City's low-income households. The organization's services address the capacity needs of the city's leading community development credit unions to build their membership and generate important economies of scale. NYCfNAC presently serves four credit unions with $27 million in assets and 12,000 members in Manhattan and Brooklyn. We seek an experienced, highly motivated individual to guide the credit unions' work with financially-underserved households. The Program Manager will work closely with the Executive Director and the Director of Outreach and Education to develop, coordinate and implement services to these households. In particular, the Program Manager will be responsible for planning and coordinating the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Project, through which the credit unions provide free tax preparation to Earned Income Tax Credit-eligible households and money management education. In 2004, NYCfNAC coordinate the nation's largest credit union-sponsored VITA Project, which served 2,500 taxpayers and generated $3.18 million in tax refunds for working, poor households. Chief Responsibilities: The Program Manager will be responsible for: assisting in developing outreach strategies; building partnerships with citywide and community-based organizations; recruiting and training volunteer tax preparers; interfacing with diverse credit union staff; guiding the work of program consultants, such as IT professionals, graphic designers, and writers; monitoring and reporting program outcomes; and overseeing financial education activities. This position will require extended work hours during the tax season. Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of tax preparation or experience with VITA operations 3-5 years experience in community or economic development field B.A. Degree Fluent in Spanish Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment Excellent writing and verbal skills Computer literate, including desktop publishing applications Compensation: High $30,000s and comprehensive benefits package, including health and dental insurance; 403(b) retirement plan with employer match; and flexible spending plan.
