Default Seeking examples of innovative approaches in Early Care and

From: LStoney95@aol.com

We are conducting research for the Smart Start Technical Assistance Center
and the Cornell University Linking Child Care and Economic Development
project on new ways to structure early care and education businesses. We
are hoping that you can help us identify promising practices. Specifically,
we are looking for examples where a single agency handles the management
and administration on behalf of a group of child care centers and/or homes.
This organization could be non-profit or for-profit, could be jointly owned
by the participating centers (like a coop), or could be a single entity
with whom all providers contract. The management agency could handle
responsibilities such as: billing and fee collection; fund raising; CCAFP
paperwork; enrollment; purchasing; payroll; staff development; or it could
hire shared staff such as substitutes, visiting nurses or mental health
professionals; etc.

We are seeking examples where an entity or "umbrella organization" takes
significant responsibility for administrative/fiscal management tasks so
that early childhood programs can concentrate on caring for children.

Any ideas for potential models in fields outside early care and education
are welcome as well. We know that that large and small businesses have
developed new kinds of information, management, and marketing
partnerships-strategic alliances that help small businesses look, act, and
feel big--but we just don't know very much about them. Please help us learn.

We know that all of you are busy so we want to make this easy. Just email
us what information/ideas you have and we'll take it from there. We will
contact the agency and conduct an interview to gather the information. All
we need, at this point, are leads.

Please send information and/or ideas to Louise at lstoney95@aol.com. If
you'd like more background information, see the issue brief on "New Ways to
Organize Early Care and Education" from the Smart Start Technical
Assistance Center at
http://smartnet.smartstart-nc.org/na.../financing.htm or
www.earlychildhoodfinance.org.

Please feel free to forward this query to others whom you think might have
information or ideas. Thanks for your help.
