Default FW: a invitation to participate in a roundtable on banking and monetary reform

Original message from: ejdodson@comcast.net

To all --

This coming August (first week of August) I will be participating in a
series of meetings in Minneapolis put together by the Council of Georgist
Organizations. The Council holds an annual meeting/conference in North
America somewhere, usually attended by around 80-100 people.

As a program idea this year I volunteered to moderate a roundtable
discussion on the various proposals to reform our monetary, banking and
credit systems. A working title for this session is "What would happen if
the Federal Reserve System (or its equivalent in other countries) was
replaced by (a) free banking; (b) public banks; (c) government-issued,
interest-free currency; (d) local currency networks; or (e) a system of
commodity-backed deposit banks with lending institutions as members"

The length of the session would depend upon the number of people willing to
participate and argue the case for each reform option -- or against any
reforms in defense of the current system. At the moment the schedule is
still very open, but I am under some pressure to pull this session together
as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, the Council is not able to reimburse participants for travel
and hotel expenses. So, if you live within reasonable commuting distance of
Minneapolis (or have some discretionary funds you would not mind spending on
this type of event) and have an interest in being involved, please let me
know at your earliest opportunity and I will provide you will more details.

Thanks.
Ed Dodson
