People's was initially chartered as People's Community Partnership FCU but became People's FCU, a division of Self-Help FCU when it merged with SHFCU in September 2008. SHFCU is an affiliate organization of the Center for Community Self-Help (CCSH) family of organizations based out of Durham, North Carolina. Founded in 1980, Self-Help is a nonprofit community development lender and real estate developer that works with qualified individuals, organizations and communities traditionally underserved by conventional markets. Position Overview: The Manager of Community Programs will work to ensure the People's FCU membership's financial education needs are met and potential members are informed of and educated on People's products. The Manager of Community Programs will work in partnership with the People's Branch Manager and report to the Vice President of the Self-Help California office. Key responsibilities will include: * Implementing and managing financial education programs using resources attracted through fundraising and volunteer recruitment. * Organizing and overseeing People's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site. * Working with staff and the People's Branch Advisory Board to identify additional financial education needs in the community, determining optimal curriculum and format, attracting necessary resources, and launching and managing programs. * Fundraising to support programs. This includes developing foundation relationships, writing grant applications and evaluations, and working closely with the Advisory Board to use their contacts, ideas and assistance. * Establishing relationships with relevant community-based organizations to develop partnerships, create a referral network, and/or increase outreach. * Working with branch staff, Self-Help staff, and People's Branch Advisory Board members to develop the long-term direction and ensure the sustainability of the credit union's financial education programming. Skills & Qualifications: People's FCU seeks a highly experienced individual committed to financial education, asset development and financial services innovation as a critical poverty-fighting strategy. The Manager will be able to balance oversight of existing programs, innovative program and curriculum design and fundraising. The ideal candidate will: * Have at least three to five years of management and supervisory experience. * Be familiar with the field of asset development and/or economic development, or a related field. * Have a strong background in fundraising. * Have experience or academic training in adult education, curriculum development and evaluation. * Demonstrate long-range thinking with hands-on capabilities. * Be committed to People's mission of financial empowerment. * Be sensitive to the financial experiences and diverse cultural backgrounds of People's target membership. * Have a flexible schedule to work evenings/weekends as appropriate.
