The most recent 1999 Directory of US Microenterprise Programs conducted by
the Apsen Institute in collaboration with the Association for Enterprise Opportunity documents 342 US programs ( an increase of 4% since the 1996 directory). Regarding group lending: 72% of all programs provide credit, 64% provide both credit and technical training 16% of all pragrams provide group lending services; 65% of all program provide individual lending services BUT: only just over 15% of al clients served are borrowers (of 55,756 clients, 5,984 are borrowing) This supports Jason' statement that the majority of microenterprises in the US are receiving training and TA services but are not borrowing. and Bill's statement that around 15% of program are group lenders.
