PRESIDENT CLINTON NAMES HOUGHTON TO CREDIT STANDARDS
ADVISORY COMMITTEE


President Clinton today announced his intention to appoint Mary
Houghton of Illinois to be a member of the Board of Directors of the
Credit Standards Advisory Committee.

Ms. Houghton is President and Director of the Shorebank Corporation
as well as Director of the subsidiary bank in Chicago. She is the
Founding Director of the Women's Self Employment Project, a non-profit
organization delivering credit and support to low income women in Chicago
and serves as a Director of the National Consumer Cooperative Bank
Development Corporation.

After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, from
Marquette University in Milwaukee Ms. Houghton earned a Master of
Science degree from the School of Advanced International Studies at Johns
Hopkins University.

The Credit Standards Advisory Committee is responsible for review of
the credit standards and lending practices of insured depository
institutions and supervision of such standards and practices by federal
financial regulators.
