Self-Funded Communities are composed of ten to thirty low-income people who buy shares to create a credit fund from which they can borrow. There is no external money and only members can invest in the group. As owners of the fund, they decide the credit conditions - interest rate, terms, collateral - and they receive all the benefits of the credit activity including a share of the interest earned on loans made by the group. It is completely self-managed and self-funded and many of the participants in ACAF are immigrants or disabled people. http://comunidadescaf.wordpress.com/ View this short video about ACAF (Spanish with English subtitles). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ugi4r...XcFsekBn07-nuT Webinar Presenter Bio: Dr. Jean Claude Rodríguez-Ferrera the founder and director of ACAF was the first Spanish Ashoka Fellow in 2006.
