*The Opportunity:* Bi-lingual Business Counselor and Trainer
The Business Counselor and Trainer will be an integral member of the BOC
Network Women’s Business Center and immigrant business development
initiatives in Brooklyn. The Business Counselor & Trainer will report to
the BOC WBC’s Program Director and will be responsible for providing
one-on-one business counseling, pre-loan and general business technical
assistance, and sector-specific training to individuals working to start or
expand a microenterprise/small business. In addition, the Business
Counselor and Trainer will assist with program coordination, reporting and
administration. Fluency in Spanish and/or French is preferred.
*RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:*
* Conduct outreach, source clients and promote BOC services in local
neighborhoods
* Both organize and represent the organization at community and small
business events;
* Conduct client interviews, assessment of needs, referrals and follow-up;
* Provide individualized business planning, management, marketing and
financial technical assistance, including loan packaging;
* Deliver individual coaching and small group workshops for community
business owners and new entrepreneurs on small business topics, building
credit and techniques for start-up, operations and growth;
* Deliver workshops and trainings, including Spring and Fall evening
microenterprise development courses designed by BOC.
* Manage client flies, both physical and electronic; track client
progress; enter activities in applicable databases;
* Research available programs and cultivate relationships with public and
private microenterprise and small business resource providers;
* Write client profiles for public relations and reporting and articles
for e-newsletters;
* Research and provide guidance in microenterprise and business trends
and techniques and develop specialized and/or industry-specific expertise;
* Coordinate short-term initiatives with the support of BOC Network’s
Director of Programs;
* Actively contribute to the overall development of the organization and
take on additional responsibilities as needed;
* Work during scheduled and periodic evening and Saturday hours.
DESIRED SKILLS:
* Minimum 2 years of relevant professional work experience, particularly
as part of a diverse team; i.e. business counseling, management
consulting/coaching, loan officer, small business trainer, marketing and
P/R, financial analyst, government grants management, etc.
* Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in relevant field; Master’s degree - highly
desired;
* Ability to review financial statements and sales projections and
develop small business cash flow analysis; work-related experience desired;
* Strong written and verbal communications, sales ability and team skills;
* Ability to promote/sell program services and to develop and implement
targeted marketing campaigns, represent the organization in public and
maintain community relationships;
* Ability to learn and work in a fast-paced environment;
* Comfortable managing diverse tasks simultaneously—sales activities,
direct services, administrative functions, and team support for program
design and coordination;
* Bilingual Spanish and/or French;
* Experience owning/managing a small business a plus;
* Self-initiating; organized; great attention to detail; resourceful; and
flexible;
* Advanced computer skills including MS Excel;
* Graphic design and/or website development/management experience a plus;
* Passionate about community business and economic justice. .
Salary range $32K – $42K; will be determined based on qualifications and
experience.
