StartSmart Business Counselor, half-time (20 hours)
Coastal Enterprises, Inc., a private nonprofit community development
corporation, providing financing and technical assistance to small
businesses, seeks a part-time Business Counselor for StartSmart, a
microenterprise program for refugees and immigrants established in 1997.
The position operates out of offices in Portland, Maine but travel and
activity are expected throughout the service area.
Responsibilities: The business counselor is responsible for providing
individual consultation and management assistance, assisting in the
development of financing proposals, and preparing and presenting
workshops within the specific service area. Also responsible for
documentation of activity and reporting, participating in staff and
department meetings, and developing partnerships to further CEI's and
the program's missions.
Qualifications: A broad knowledge of all aspects of business
management, including marketing management, finance, sources of finance;
business issues and entrepreneurship; effective written/oral
communications and presentation skills; strong interpersonal skills; a
demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and independently;
experience working with diverse populations and non-native English
speakers; proficiency with business software and technology; and strong
interest in marketing and internet marketing. A four-year college degree
or professional designation plus minimum of five years related business
and/or professional experience is required. A Masters Degree in a
related field and living and working outside of the United States are
