Manufactured Housing Webinar Series: Promoting Quality Affordable Housing
Single-Family Financing for Manufactured Homes
Wednesday, November 17th from 2:00 - 3:00 PM EST
Join I'M HOME team members, partners and industry experts for the latest installment in the Manufactured Housing Webinar Series. Panelists will discuss the state of single-family financing products for manufactured home buyers and their efforts to develop favorable alternatives.
Nationwide, residents of manufactured homes have historically faced issues of predatory lending and constrained financing options. However, evidence suggests that well-built, energy-efficient HUD-code homes, properly sited on "owned land" or in a resident-owned community, and financed fairly, can appreciate in value and represent an attractive, affordable asset-building housing option.
As the recent turmoil in the housing market illustrates, fair and affordable single-family financing is a particularly critical element of promoting wealth creation through homeownership, regardless of the type of home. This webinar will explore the importance of conventional lending, give a history of manufactured home financing and investigate other issues that determine the availability and quality of existing market products. Participants will have the chance to learn how history, titling, legislation, GSEs and other factors affect single-family financing products from the industry perspective, a legal expert and a lender currently providing single-family financing for manufactured home buyers. We will draw on the knowledge and expertise of several organizations:
Kathryn Gwatkin Goulding, Director of I'M HOME at CFED
Lisa Davis, Program Officer at the Ford Foundation
John Van Alst, Staff Attorney at the National Consumer Law Center
Stephen Wheeler, Managing Director at Housing Advisory Services
Lewis Dancy, Assistant Director of Mortgage Lending at Self-Help Credit Union
