In the first of two issues exploring banking needs and opportunities in
rural America, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's Community
Developments newsletter focuses on the vital role banks play in stimulating
and sustaining economic development www.occ.treas.gov/cdd/fallezine.pdf.
Access this edition to read about how innovative banks are working with
USDA, SBA, and other programs to help finance farmers, value-added
agricultural initiatives, community facilities, and small-town
revitalization. The newsletter also explains how small banks can meet
Community Reinvestment Act requirements. In conjunction with this issue of
the newsletter, the Community Affairs page of OCC's Internet Web site has
been expanded to provide a directory of rural community development banking
resources www.occ.treas.gov/cdd/rural.htm .
We would like your feedback on the articles that appear in Community
Developments, and the innovative practices that we might highlight in our
next issue on rural housing and retail financial services. If you have a
practice you would like to share, please send an e-mail to
<mailto:Thomas.Goffe@occ.treas.gov>. Also, please let us know if you would
like to unsubscribe from this distribution or receive a hard copy of the
newsletter. We look forward to hearing from you.
