POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Community and Economic Development Research
Advisor

JOB SUMMARY:
Conducts independent applied research and produces highly specialized and
original research papers or reports on topics relevant to community and
economic development, consumer financial products, human capital
development, small business, or financial education, including the
effectiveness of each. Aides in establishing annual research agenda. Works
with substantial degree of independence and little assistance in area of
expertise. Contributes to Bank's objective of becoming a knowledge center
by writing, giving speeches and talking to outside audiences, and by
contributing to Bank research projects. Prepares written summaries of
workshop or conference proceedings. Contributes material to the
department’s Web site and newsletter and assists in preparation of
presentation materials.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Conducts independent journal-quality applied research and produces
highly specialized and original research reports on community and economic
development, consumer financial products, human capital development, small
business, and financial education. Provides an ongoing output of written
reports and analyses for publication on department's website and in
department’s discussion papers, periodic newsletters, and external sources
(to include original research, as well as conference or workshop
summaries). Published works may include collaborative efforts with other
Department or Bank staff, colleagues in other Reserve Banks, policy makers
or academics.
2. Monitors and collects information related to community development
and/or financial education from a variety of sources including trade
publications, web-based news sources and computer databases.
3. Develops and maintains relationships with other researchers and
practitioners in the areas of community development, consumer finance
products, and financial education as a source of information and data to
support the department's research agenda.
4. Supports other research or project initiatives within the Reserve
Bank that advance the department's mission and that of the Bank as a
whole.
5. Actively involved in the accomplishment of departmental and/or
Bankwide quality initiatives by acting as a department coordinator, team
leader, and/or team member as required. Assists departmental management in
administration and supervision of junior staff assignments. Reviews
research outputs of other Community and Economic Development staff
ensuring appropriate research and internal standards are met.
6. Fulfills job duties and responsibilities in conformance with sound
safety practices.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Graduate degree required in Economics, Finance, Public Policy, Planning,
or other community or economic development related field. Approximately 6
years of relevant experience in a research, planning or related capacity
in the area of community or economic development and/or financial
education.
