Position Announcement: CONTROLLER

Responsibilities:
The Controller is an exempt position that reports to the CEO and is a member of the senior management team. As such, the Controller must possess strategic analysis and thinking skills and participate in senior management strategic and operational planning.
In addition, the Controller is responsible for financial systems, for Mountain BizWorks. The Controller will be expected to lead financial analysis, planning and budgeting, financial analysis related to new program development, financial accounting systems and procedures, and asset and liability management for Mountain BizWorks.
The Controller shall also have primary responsibility for the negotiation of favorable terms with investors and vendors.
The Controller is required to maintain a strong relationship with other department managers to optimize cross-functional efficiencies and communication, and is required to maintain a relationship with the Mountain BizWorks Board Treasurer to facilitate timely and accurate communication regarding the financial position of the organization.
Accounting and Financial Management
* Manage ongoing cash and liquidity needs for loan fund and operating accounts. Ensure that all cash accounting related responsibilities are maintained on a current basis. Provide regular reports to senior management of status of cash and liquidity needs.
* Serve as primary contact with banks, investors and money managers, negotiating favorable terms for all loans and investments
* Execute all grant agreements.
* Maintain and update database of investors to Mountain BizWorks revolving loan fund, including scheduled interest and principal payments. Manage allocations of all closed loans to appropriate loan funds, with an understanding of special priorities and restrictions
* Design and oversee accounting, billing and payment systems for Mountain BizWorks activities.
* Ensure that the accounting department maintains an effective loan accounting operating system and ensure that the department has a consistently trained staff available to operate all loan accounting requirements.
* Manage annual audit preparation and serve as primary staff liaison with auditor.
* Manage payroll and benefits administration, which may include working with an outside payroll company.
* Supervise accounting staff and recommend to Executive Management all new hires for department.
* Develop and update financial management and accounting manuals as needed.
Financial and Management Report Production and Coordination
* Coordinate the preparation of monthly internal financial statements and other management reports, including preparation of financial analysis, monthly financial position of the organization, interest earnings, loan portfolio schedules, and other materials. In conjunction with the Chief Lending Officer, prepare monthly loan portfolio management reports for CEO and Board review.
* Manage funder reporting requirements for foundation, corporate and government grants and investments. Insure timely submission of all required financial and compliance reports.
* Serve as primary staff contact with IRS, state Department of Corporations, and other regulatory agencies.
Planning, Budgeting, Internal Controls
* Working with CEO and other management staff develop annual budgets and annual work plans.
* Establish and maintain adequate control system to handle loan fund expansion.
* Provide such reports and analysis for the CEO as may be requested.
Other Duties
* Stewardship over all Mountain BizWorks financial resources, including real estate and other fixed assets, determine strategies to increase efficiency and effectiveness of expenses and to maximize revenues.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in most or all of the following:
* Strategic planning and financial analysis skills
* Financial planning and budgeting, including projections of loans receivable and payable;
* Preparation of routine internal and external financial statements/footnotes;
* Strong and demonstrated negotiation skills with vendors, banks and other investors.
* Assessment and improvement of financial and loan systems and procedures;
* Cash management;
* Strong verbal and writing skills and computer literacy, particularly with accounting software;
* Understanding of, experience in, and comfort with the nonprofit sector a plus.
Qualifications:
* College degree (Accounting/Accounting) with 5-plus year's hands-on experience as a Controller, Senior Financial Manager or Accounting Manager in a small to mid-sized business. MBA and/or CPA are pluses.
* Demonstrated negotiating skills with vendors, bankers and/or investors.
* Solid financial accounting, statement preparation and analytical skills.
* Proven cash management skills, i.e. control, forecasting and budgeting.
* Strong written and verbal skills. Interpersonal skills must include a demonstrated ability to deal effectively with diverse constituents, internal staff, board members, investors, outside public accounting, legal, bank and other professionals.
* Computer literate, with strong working knowledge of accounting software and spreadsheet applications.
* Financial services experience (i.e., lending, funding and portfolio risk analysis) is a plus.
* MIS and IT management experience is a plus.
* Nonprofit work experience is a plus.
