It's Tax Day: An Opportunity to Support Your Business Next Door By Voting for CFED in the Sam's Club Giving Made Simple Campaign
Each year, approximately 20 million self-employed business owners file taxes - 2 million of them for the first time. Nearly one-quarter (23%) of these 20 million self-employed tax filers are eligible and qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit - making the EITC an approximately $6.5 billion tax credit for low-income businesses. But to take advantage of this easy method to build assets for their business, they need easily available and free guidance and tax prep information.
Who are these low-income, self-employed businesses? They are home-based childcare providers, barbers and beauticians, landscapers and construction trade, healthcare workers, caterers and independent artists - they represent the foundation of our small business economy, which we all depend on every day. During economic downturns, such as the one facing our nation now, these self-employed businesses represent the best of American entrepreneurialism. They are also a primary source of job creation and new self-help jobs.
CFED has chance to support 100,000 self-employed Americans start their business off right through the Sam's Club Giving Made Simple<http://www.cfed.org/knowledge_center/events/sams_club_campaign> ('http://www.cfed.org/knowledge_center/events/sams_club_campaign>') Campaign. This month, Sam's Club Members will vote to decide how to invest $4 million to support small businesses and young entrepreneurs and CFED has been selected as one of the finalists. CFED is pleased to bring one of its most successful programs into the spotlight during tax season, thanks to Giving Made Simple. The funding would go directly to our Self Employment Tax Initiative <http://www.cfed.org/programs/seti> ('http://www.cfed.org/programs/seti>') (SETI) to help our local partners use the tax code to deliver essential business development and financial services to low-income entrepreneurs, for free.
Formalizing a business through the tax code is the first step toward growing a business. Not just that, by formalizing through the tax code, self-employed businesses contribute more fully to their local economy, perfect their inclusion to the social safety net of Social Security and Medicare and help close the nation's tax gap. Help CFED support the small and home-based entrepreneur! Vote for CFED now and everyday through May 2nd at www2.samsclub.com/giving/about/CFED and help CFED:
* Support up to 100,000 small businesses to start their business right.
* Help entrepreneurs who have created jobs for themselves and are the base of our economy.
* Assist small businesses owners to formalize through the tax code so that they grow and contribute to their community.
