I wanted to share with others on this list a new report out from the Ford
Foundation, "Keeping Wealth Local: Shared Ownership and Wealth Control for
Rural Communities," by myself and Shanna Ratner. It was prepared for the
Wealth Creation in Rural America project that Ford is running.
The aim of the project is to develop and take to scale new approaches to
rural community development that take a triple bottom line approach. As part
of that, the aim of this report is to look at the role of shared ownership
models in keeping wealth local. It's a handbook of various models of
shared ownership, such as cooperatives, employee ownership, community land
trusts, municipal ownership, conservation easements, and more -- including
definitions, strengths and weaknesses, many real-world examples, and where to go
for sources of assistance. I thought this might prove useful in your work.
Please feel free to share it. I've attached a copy, and it can also be
accessed at _www.yellowwood.org/wealthcreation.aspx_
(http://www.yellowwood.org/wealthcreation.aspx) ('http://www.yellowwood.org/wealthcreation.aspx)')
best,
