Wanted: AmeriCorps *VISTA service member to oversee the development and
operation of the West Virginia Saves campaign based out of Wheeling, WV.
West Virginia Saves is a social marketing campaign that works to help
people build wealth and encourages them to "Start Small. Think Big" and
falls under the umbrella of the national America Saves campaign. It is
the first West Virginia initiative to be developed. The West Virginia
Saves coalition is made up of community groups, financial institutions,
employers, schools, government entities, places of worship, as well as
others. This program is inclusive of financial education classes and
wealth-building workshops. Financial literacy is so important to the
economic growth of West Virginia residents. This initiative is of great
benefit to the residents of our communities. The coalition works
together to motivate savers and to encourage them to develop a
wealth-building goal. Goals may include debt repayment, an emergency
fund, homeownership, retirement savings or even something much more
modest. West Virginia Saves assists savers in creating a simple plan to
help them achieve their individual goals and is open to savers of all
ages.
AmeriCorps *VISTA service is a one-year commitment which will begin
around February 1, 2010. Members are expected to serve 12 months,
full-time, excluding pre-service orientation. As head of the West
Virginia Saves team, the VISTA member will help our organization build
capacity by organizing an upcoming Affordable Housing and Personal
Finance Seminar, grant writing, volunteer organization, workshop
coordination, and other duties.
There is a subsistence allowance for this position per month. An
End-of-Service Education Award or End-of-Service Stipend, health
coverage and other benefits are also available.
