ACCION USA



Position Summary: ACCION USA is seeking a highly qualified Vice-President
of Lending. As a leader in U.S. microfinance, ACCION USA empowers low- to
moderate-income business owners through access to capital and financial
education. With economic opportunity, these entrepreneurs-often minorities
and women-can build assets, better provide for their families, create
employment and strengthen their communities.



Reporting to the CEO/President, the VP of Lending works as a member of the
senior management team to develop program strategy and has primary
responsibility for managing the intake and lending efforts. However, loan
underwriting is the responsibility of the VP of Risk Management, so this
role focuses on origination and qualification. The VP of Lending will lead a
team of 3 Regional Program Directors, one Business Development Director, 20
Loan Consultants, and several volunteers. ACCION USA's principal offices are
in New York City, with satellite offices in Boston, Atlanta and Miami. This
position will be located in New York City.



ACCION USA seeks to significantly expand its reach and portfolio. Since its
establishment in 1991, ACCION USA has provided over $115 million in over
18,500 loans. Loans range in size from $700 to $50,000, with an average of
$7000. The VP of Lending will develop and execute a strategy that reaches
thousands of additional low-income, disadvantaged small business owners, and
lead the team through a period of growth that achieves financial
sustainability.



Key Responsibilities:

Lending

Develop and execute a strategy that successfully reaches thousands of
low-income, disadvantaged small business owners

* Work with the VP of Marketing to create a strategy that clearly
identifies ACCION USA's target market and the most effective methods to
reach this market, including how to leverage existing referral sources
(banks, community organizations, borrowers, etc.) and bring a fresh approach
to reaching clients

* Lead sales and outreach efforts to bring in qualified applicants and
provide appropriate client experience

* Responsible for forecasting sales for budgeting and other financial
analyses



Management

Handle supervision, reporting, evaluation and all other aspects of
successfully running the program

* Manage lending team including handling performance evaluation,
coaching and motivation, and professional development support so that team
members achieve their potential and effectively contribute to program goals
& objectives

* Work with the Resource Development team to attract necessary
financial and human capital, including providing support on grant proposals
and funder site visits; reporting and compliance on grants, government
contracts and loan capital; utilizing volunteers when appropriate; and
presentations/public speaking

* Coordinate activities with Marketing, Risk Management and
Collections units

* Work with ACCION USA senior management team to develop overall
program strategy, including setting short-term and long-term goals and
objectives

* Establish an organizational structure, compensation & incentive plan
and training programs that support the agreed strategy of the Lending Unit.





Qualifications: The ideal candidate possesses the following qualities:

* Five or more years (consumer or commercial?) lending experience,
preferably targeting low-income communities and/or small businesses

* Three years with full responsibility for managing a program,
division or business unit, with demonstrated success meeting or exceeding
clearly stated goals

* Three or more years supervisory experience, adept at leading and
motivating a diverse team

* Demonstrated initiative that goes beyond job description to make
sure goals are achieved

* Ability to focus on what is important, including prioritizing and
having a willingness to say no despite being pulled in many different
directions

* Superior communication skills and an ability to adapt to a wide
variety of audiences, including direct reports, senior management team,
clients, partners, funders, and public speaking

* Ability to think and respond quickly; ability to play different
roles readily

* Comfortable with being responsible for and accountable to several
internal stakeholders

* Commitment to asset-building and wealth creation for low income
communities
