Community Development Banking List

Hi folks,

Interest rates may be getting so low that we don't need to try to involve the entire Capitalist money world into one concerted effort, a World Equity Union. (My argument had been that the inflationary aspects of credit precluded the possibility of doing business, especially small business and that taking loans was just plain bad business (and personal) practice.

Now, however, hurdle rates, as assessed for investments, may be low enough for us to start localized equity sharing arrangements in which the equity union partners with local businesses and/or would be community entrepreneurs.

However, we still have the problem with inflated market values for real property and other capital assets.

I'd like to get feedback from folks on this list with respect equity unions and how to write down the costs of inflated market assets to make localized community development ventures feasible.

Thank you.
