In recent years, the International Association of Science Parks (IASP) has
held this conference in Barcelona, Spain, and Johannesburg, South Africa,
and future years will be hosted by Daejeon, Korea, and Copenhagen,
Denmark. This is a major international event where professionals can meet,
exchange knowledge and information, establish alliances and develop new
joint projects. Held in the United States for the first time, the
conference focuses on how regions and communities can create systems of
innovation that drive economic growth. Three full days of discussions will
focus on the latest trends in technology-led economic development and will
emphasize how to strengthen and leverage the assets of science and
technology parks, universities, and entrepreneurs.

More than 1,100 participants from over 70 countries are expected to
attend, including economic developers, science park managers and other
practitioners involved in technology-based economic development. Take

innovation serve as the engine of future economic growth.

operations

development

* What IASP’s futures map reveals – what to anticipate and how to
prepare for the evolution of technology and innovation

Economies
* Characteristics of Competitive Places: Changing Models of Economic
Dynamism
* Entrepreneurs: Next Generation Partnerships
* Beyond Borders: The Geography for Innovation
* Going Green: Building a Sustainable Future
* Contributing to Regional Competitiveness & Impact

* Universities: Providing More than Basic Research
* Universities are well known as a source of training and basic
research. Yet universities also play important roles as providers of
culture, an educated labor pool, new technologies and commercialization
opportunities, all of which contribute to an improved the quality of life
and job creation. This session will examine universities’ various roles
and ways that communities and science parks can build and enhance
engagement with them.
* The Built Environment
* Today’s knowledge workers and their companies demand interesting
and stimulating physical environments that foster interaction and help
bring innovation and creativity to life. In addition, the breakdown of the
traditional work schedule and the rise of telecommuting and working
“virtually” have contributed to new work environments and innovation
centers. This session will focus on physical development that enhances
quality of life and creates environments conducive to idea creation and
commercialization.
* Breaking Barriers: Leveraging Non-Traditional Connections
* ED Town Hall: Tech-Led Development Solutions for Economic Recovery
and Resiliency
* Life Sciences Incubation Models
* Communities with existing or promising life science clusters are
seeking innovative ways to start, nurture and grow early-stage companies.
Given venture capital’s preference for later-stage funding, healthy
industry growth is dependent on business models that support not only the
formation of new companies but that advance those new companies to the
next levels of funding. This session will explore the pioneering efforts
of cutting-edge incubator concepts including Accelerator Corporation, bi3
(Biogen Idec Innovation Incubator), and The Pfizer Incubator (TPI) to spur
life science innovation while mitigating risks.
