POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
ASSOCIATION FOR ENTERPRISE OPPORTUNITY
BACKGROUND
The Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) is the only national
member-based association dedicated to the microenterprise development
industry. Now in its eighteenth year, AEO has a membership of nearly 400
practitioners, advocates, public agencies, funders, and supporters who share
in its mission to support the development of strong and effective U.S.
microenterprise initiatives to assist underserved entrepreneurs in starting,
stabilizing and expanding businesses. Based in Arlington, VA, AEO has a
full time staff of 9 and an operating budget of nearly $2 million.
The CEO is the senior staff person for AEO and carries the full range of
responsibilities usually associated with such a position. Reporting to the
Board of Directors, the CEO's responsibilities include the following:
external relations with funders, government agencies, businesses and other
partners; resource development, including both grant support and contract
and other earned revenue; organizational management, including budget and
oversight of the strong staff; and strategic planning, including both long
term goal setting and annual operational plans.
REQUIREMENTS include the following:
* 10+ years of demonstrated relevant, responsible leadership and
management experience, including national and nonprofit experience;
* Professional leadership experience in microenterprise, community
economic development or a related field is desirable;
* Demonstrated track record of organizational fundraising, including
income generating initiatives, and sound fiscal management of a
multi-million dollar organization;
* Experience in working with national research and policy
organizations, regulatory agencies and legislators;
* Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and establish
collaborative and cooperative relationships with diverse audiences and
constituencies;
* Graduate degree preferred in the areas of business, nonprofit
management, economic development or other related field.
* Ability to be strategic and problem-solve, and still be flexible;
* Ability to balance multiple demands, prioritize tasks and retain
clear focus;
COMPENSATION
The salary range is $100-125,000, depending on experience and salary
history, plus health, vacation, insurance and retirement benefits.
