Position Summary and Essential Functions:
The Vice President, CARS(tm) is responsible for analyzing and rating community development financial institutions (CDFIs) under the CDFI Assessment and Rating System (CARS(tm)). CARS(tm) uses a comprehensive methodology to rate community development financial institutions (CDFIs) in the areas of impact performance and financial strength and performance. CARS(tm) ratings and analyses are used by investors and donors in their CDFI investment decision-making and portfolio monitoring. The CARS(tm) VP is part of a team of analysts, both staff and external consultants, that conducts analyses, prepares annual assessments, contributes to revisions of the CARS(tm) methodology as needed, and participates as a voting member of the ratings committee. CARS(tm) analysts are among the most experienced and sought after CDFI advisors and underwriters in the field.
Responsibilities:
1. Review extensive written and financial documentation on CDFIs leading to detailed issues/questions to be explored during on-site and phone interviews.
2. Test and refine staff-prepared financial spreads and extensive, related tables and graphs.
3. Coordinate site visit schedules and due diligence with fellow analysts and OFN staff.
4. Communicate extensively with assigned CDFIs to explain the CARS* focus and process, schedule site visits, and manage CDFI expectations about CARS* ratings.
5. Conduct due diligence during on-site and phone interviews in a thorough and respectful manner.
6. Prepare professionally written, in-depth analyses about a CDFI's impact performance and financial strength and performance using the CARS* methodology and format for both full analyses and annual reviews.
7. Review, evaluate, discuss, and rate analyses and annual reviews prepared by other CARS* analysts through participation in the ratings committee.
8. Participate, as requested, in discussions about revisions to the CARS* methodology, in presentations to CDFIs and investors about the purpose and use of CARS*, or in other activities to develop CARS* as a reliable, broadly used ratings service.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's Degree or 9 years work experience; Graduate Degree a plus.
2. 3-5 years of professional experience in underwriting loans or investments to asset-based companies or nonprofit organizations, financial analysis, credit analysis required. Experience in underwriting community development financial institutions a plus.
3. Consulting experience with CDFIs is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Physical Requirements
1. Superior analytical and organizational skills required.
2. Superior written and verbal communication skills required.
3. Ability to understand, create, and modify financial statements required.
4. Superior interpersonal skills and ability to work well with diverse constituents is required.
5. Proficient with MS Office Products/Internet. Proficiency in Excel required.
6. Ability to work well independently or in team environment.
7. Ability to manage multiple tasks under minimal supervision in effective and efficient manner.
8. Ability to set priorities and delegate tasks effectively required.
9. Knowledge of and commitment to community development preferred.
10. Some travel required (up to 30% of time).
11. No extraordinary physical requirements beyond ability to travel.
12. May be based outside the Philadelphia, PA area.
13. Job involves normal physical requirements for an office position.
Compensation
