All:
NCIF is proud to announce the release of a white paper detailing the
development and use of the NCIF Social Performance Metrics. The paper,
NCIF Social Performance Metrics: A Quantitative Approach to Measuring
the Social Impact of Banks and Thrifts, and to Investing Capital in the
Community Development Banking Sector, available by clicking here
<http://www.ncif.org/images/uploads/NCIF_SPM.pdf> ('http://www.ncif.org/images/uploads/NCIF_SPM.pdf>') , provides background
on the creation of a consistent, verifiable and cost-effective measure
of the social impact of banks and thrifts. As you will see from the
document, these metrics have been endorsed by key investors and the CDFI
banking industry. The F. B. Heron Foundation supported the development
of this work and is a key supporter going forward. Our hope is that
these metrics help in achieving the following three objectives:
1. Create a credible and replicable way of measuring social
performance of Community Development Banking Institutions (CDBI)- these
are CDFI banks or others that 'walk, talk and look' like CDFIs but may
not be CDFIs. We have started with publicly available data on branch
locations and housing but hope to extend this to CRA and other data.
2. Bring in more funding resources to the CDBI sector - in the form
of deposits, debt and equity - to create a direct correlation with the
social performance, as measured by the Social Performance Metrics.
3. Increase the asset classs of CDBIs that can eventually become
CDFIs.
For more information, or thoughts about the Social Performance Metrics,
please feel free to contact us. To use our searchable database
containing financial and social performance information on all domestic
banks and thrifts, please visit this link

We also want to remind you to register for the NCIF Annual Development
Banking Conference on November 6 and 7, 2008 in Chicago. As always, the
NCIF Conference is focused on providing Actionable Strategies for CDFIs
that can be replicated to improve financial performance and enhance
development impact. We are honored to have the Honorable Donna
Gambrell, Director of the CDFI Fund, as a keynote speaker for this
year's event. Please visit www.ncif.org <http://www.ncif.org/> ('http://www.ncif.org/>') to
register and to check out the evolving agenda
