Greetings to all,
I attempted to post the following message awhile ago but it did not appear.
I am assuming this was because it included a pdf file as an attachment,
which I am removing to repost the message. If anyone would like to receive
the attachment, please contact me directly.

We do not need to look very far from our own neighborhoods to see that a
large number of people in this world are in serious trouble. Governments,
even those actually committed to improving the lives of their citizens, are
less and less effective at dealing with environmental and economic
challenges.
For more years than I want to think about, I have struggled to make a
difference, as have all of you. One of the persons I have come to know who
has made a real difference with his writing, lecturing and as an advisor to
governments is the British economist Fred Harrison. I am humbled to be able
to say that Fred is a good friend and valued colleague.
Fred is engaged in a new and hard-hitting campaign to create an expanding
public dialogue and awareness of the causes of global poverty and how
poverty can be cured. His new book, The Silver Bullet, explains all this in
crystal clear and very accessible language. I strongly recommend this new
book to you. Once you have read it, tell others about the book. Better yet,
pass on your copy.
Attached is a short promotional piece for the book that provides insight
into the great importance of this work.
I also wanted to remind anyone who lives in the Kansas City area that in
July, I will be delivering two talks at a conference hosted by the Council
of Georgist Organizations, to be held at the Howard Johnson's Plaza near the
airport. The date is Thursday, July 10.
Both of my talks are based on updated versions of presentations I have made
available to subscribers on the Community Development Banking list. The
first talk, "The Economic Bust of 2010" is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., and the
respondent is Nic Tideman, who chairs the Dept. of Economics at Virginia
Polytechnic Institute. The second talk, "Death of Debt Strangulation," will
be at 1:30 p.m., and the respondent is the chief economist of the Kansas
City Federal Reserve Bank.
Attendance for the one day of this conference costs $135 if you have lunch,
and only $65 if you get lunch on your own. For more information on the
conference, you can contact the conference administrator (Sue Walton) at
1-888-262-9015 or by email: sns@swwalton.com.
Best regards,
Ed Dodson
