FHA would be allowed to offer federal guarantees on up to $300 billion in
existing mortgages in order to try and refinance borrowers into more

the foreclosure crisis. The House package contains similar elements to the
Senate package, although Financial Services Chairman Barney Frank has

the Senate plan to use low income housing funds to pay for foreclosure
relief.
Lawmakers have set a goal of June 4th to present President Bush with a
homeowner aid package. The Bush administration has already issued a veto
threat to the House package and support for the Senate package is uncertain.
