Mount Vernon Square Grants Coordinator
* Working with Deputy Director, Community Partners, and the Washington
Convention Center Authority (WCCA) Historic Preservation Committee, further
refine grant program requirements and criteria and create grant application
forms for businesses and residents.
* Working with the Deputy Director, Community Partners, and the
Historic Preservation Committee, develop a community outreach plan to
introduce the grant program to residents and businesses.
* Market the grant program: convene and attend scheduled meetings with
residents and businesses, distribute information in the community, meet with
individual business owners and residents as needed.
* Assist residents and businesses with completing grant applications.
* Assist the Historic Preservation Committee with the review and
approval of grant applications.
* Review grant documentation for compliance, monitor rehabilitation
work, assist grantees with historic preservation and/or permitting issues
when necessary.
* Maintain statistics and books and records for grant program.
* 27 hours per week, including at least 4 hours on Saturdays and
evening meetings.
* Compensation: approximately $30,000
Required Experience:
At least five years of experience in community development, including:
project management, lending, or asset management. Experience with Historic
Preservation is a strong plus. Ability to establish a good rapport with
local community activists and political leaders. Excellent written and oral
communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and

FARISH STREET HISTORIC DISTRICT NEIGHBORHOOD FOUNDATION
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Farish Street Historic District Neighborhood Foundation is seeking
a highly qualified individual to work directly with its Board to develop
and implement programs and projects that support the Foundation's
primary goal of revitalizing the Farish Street Historic District
Neighborhood Foundation. The Director will provide leadership and
technical capacity in program planning, implementation, and fundraising
as they relate to the objectives of the Foundation. The ideal candidate
will have an existing (or be able to develop quickly) relationship with
the Foundation’s partners, including the National Trust for Historic
Preservation’s Main Street and/or Community Partner’s Programs, the
Local initiative Support Corporation (LISC), the National Equity Fund,
the Fannie Mae Foundation, City of Jackson, State of Mississippi, and
federal funded programs.
The individual selected must have extensive experience in the
development and management of affordable housing, historic district
economic commercial revitalization, program planning involving
neighborhood-level citizen participation, and cooperative working
relationships with the public and private sectors. The individual
selected must further be able to successfully raise support for
programs, supervise staff and student interns, and effectively negotiate
with consultants.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Conceptualization - must be able to analyze the condition of
the target area, conceptualize and design housing and economic
development projects with an emphasis of community development and
historic preservation.
Proposal Writing - must be able to develop program and project
concepts into successful investment proposals for government,
corporations, and foundations.
? Project Implementation - must have relevant experience and knowledge
to make strategic residential and commercial real estate acquisitions,
manage properties during a holding period, create development budgets
detailing sources and uses of funds and operating projections, engage
real estate professionals such as architects, appraisers, economic
development specialists, and contractors, present development plans to
public and private sources of debt and equity, and manage projects
through pre-construction, construction, sale or lease-up, and business
operation.
? Nonprofit Management - must be able to work closely with the Board
Chairperson to provide guidance and support to the Board of Directors
and its Committees. Must have relevant experience running a small
nonprofit operation including financial and staff management.
PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
? Self-Starter - must be able to conceptualize, develop, and implement
projects.
? Leadership Capabilities - must be able to successfully relate to and
motivate staff, community leaders, residents, funders, etc.
? Commitment - must be committed to community and leadership
development.
? Technical Ability - must have demonstrated technical ability in
developing affordable housing and economic development projects.
? Excellent Proposal and Report Writing Ability - must be able to
conceptualize and write successful investment proposals in support of
the Foundation’s development activities and strategic plans.
? Public Speaking - must have demonstrated experience leading group
discussions, presenting workshops, making presentation to funding
sources and financial investors, and speaking to community audiences.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCES
The Executive Director must possess a high level of professional skills
in developing and implementing affordable housing and economic
development strategies. His or her education and relevant experience
must provide the ability to work independently, credibly, and skillfully
in the required areas of concentration.
The Executive Director should have a masters level degree in an
academic field related to this position such as Urban Planning, Urban
Studies, Nonprofit Management, Architecture, Community Organization,
Community Development, or Real Estate Development, and a minimum of five
years professional experience in one of the fields. However, the
individual's experience will take precedent over the masters degree
requirement.
This position is based in Jackson, Mississippi, and is available
