To all --

Not long ago, I posted a message offering to send to anyone who asked a
presentation I put together on the business cycle. You surprised me with
your level of interest. I hope you found the analysis of some value, even if
you did not agree with the conclusions and policy recommendations I offer.

At the moment, I am pulling together research for a talk I am scheduled to
give in early February on the implications of the sub-prime mortgage
debacle. I have been discussing the scale of the problem with a number of
former colleagues and invite anyone who cares to, to send me your insights.

Recently, I completed a paper on the history of land speculation in the
United States. Even I was surprised at the extent to which the Founding
Fathers and earlier generations relied on speculative investments in land to
amass their personal fortunes. I am in the process of marketing this paper
to several journals, but if anyone would like a copy I will be more than
happy to send one to you electronically.

Best wishes to everyone for what is certain to be a stressful 2008 in the
community banking arena.
