National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions
33rd Annual Conference on Serving the Underserved
June 6-9, 2007 - New Orleans, LA
"The Faith to Rebuild"
Join us in New Orleans where you'll have the opportunity to see first-hand both the devastation from the storms and the progress made by "people helping people" - the credit union motto. *Come early or stay late, and join the volunteer rebuilding efforts!
From the time our Faith-based Credit Union Conference opens on Thursday morning at the historic St. Louis Cathedral to the closing ceremonies of our 33rd Annual Conference on Serving the Underserved, we guarantee you will have an unforgettable time.
There is no place in the world like New Orleans - and no more important time to be there!
-----------------------------------
Confirmed Keynote Speakers Include:
o Bill Strickland, Founder, Manchester Craftsmen's Guild and Bidwell Training Center
o Dr. DeForest B. Soaries, Jr., Senior Pastor, First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens
o Rodney Hood, NCUA Vice-Chairman
o Gigi Hyland, NCUA Board Member
-----------------------------------
Come early on Wednesday, June 6th for exciting pre-conference events:
NCUA Outreach Task Force "Town Hall Meeting"
We encourage anyone coming to our conference to make plans to attend an 8:00 am "Town Hall" discussion with NCUA Board Member Gigi Hyland. This is an important opportunity for CDCUs to present their unique perspectives to help shape the agency's policies on serving people of modest means. (Register separately with NCUA.)
Pre-Conference Ninth Ward Tour
To fully experience New Orleans in its rebuilding mode, join us on Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 pm for a special pre-conference tour of New Orleans' Ninth Ward, the predominantly low-income community that was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The tour will look at current reconstruction efforts, including a visit to a new community center being built by ASI FCU and their non-profit affiliate A Shared Initiative, Inc. This tour will be an emotional experience, and certainly not to be missed.
