View Full Version : charitable dollars for community development credit unions

Our community foundation has been approached by a group interested in starting a credit union to serve a low-income neighborhood.
*
They were not aware of the many technical assistance resources available to community development credit unions, so I have pointed them to National Federation of Community Development Credit Unions and to the CDFI Coalition.
*
Because we do not have extensive experience working with CDFIs, and because I would like to provide them counsel as they move forward, I would appreciate hearing back from anyone with experience successfully raising needed operating funds for a community development credit union.
*
Many thanks.

I was lead organizer in forming People's Community Partnership Federal Credit Union, in Oakland, California.* I'd be happy to share some info with you about the initial (and continuing) fundraising work for the organization.*

That is great news - I am on the board of a non-profit that is exploring the idea of a CDCU and the question of start up funding has been a question as well as operating capital while the CDCU is in the beginning years.
