Boston Community Capital (BCC) is a community development financial institution whose mission is to create and preserve healthy communities where low-income people live and work.* Boston Community Capital developed its mission out of a recognition that economic, social and civic isolation for individuals and communities are barriers to healthy communities, economic independence, and wealth creation.* To carry out its mission, BCC seeks to create a financial intermediary system that serves the needs of low-income and disadvantaged people and communities and connects those people and communities to the mainstream economy.*

Boston Community Capital meets the capital and finance needs of low-income communities by: (1) providing a range of existing financial vehicles, services and products; (2) creating innovative financial vehicles, services and products; (3) and acting as investment banker for those communities.* Boston Community Capital’s primary affiliates, Boston Community Loan Fund (BCLF) and Boston Community Venture Fund (BCVF), are certified community development financial institutions (CDFIs).

Boston Community Loan Fund is a non-profit revolving loan fund that makes loans to projects and organizations that provide affordable housing, community facilities, and social services to low-income people and communities.* During its history, BCLF has originated more than $50 million in loans with a loan loss rate of less than one third of one percent. BCLF currently manages more than $33 million in assets, including a $23 million revolving loan fund and a $10 million loan participation program.**

Currently, BCC and affiliates have a staff of 17 persons.* The consolidated operating budget for the current fiscal year is $2.8 million. Located in Dudley Square in Boston, BCLF serves the state of Massachusetts.

Position Description

The Senior Loan Officer is one of three BCLF lenders.* This position is to fill a vacancy.* The Loan Officer will responsible for booking new loans, from initial inquiry and application screening, through the credit underwriting and loan approval process, to loan documentation, closing, funding and ongoing monitoring.** BCLF’s portfolio primarily consists of non-conforming loans and its borrowers include: community development corporations, social service agencies, community organizations, and for-profit affordable hosing developers. The position includes providing technical assistance to small or volunteer organizations, structuring financial plans and working with other public and private lenders.

Specific responsibilities include:

Lending ¨*******Identifying new borrowers and lending opportunities ¨*******Providing technical assistance, including guidance on financial structuring and organizational development ¨*******Underwriting loans including preparing written credit memos and loan recommendations to Loan Committee
¨*******Working with other lenders and structuring financing packages and intercreditor agreements
¨*******Participating in the closing and funding process

Loan Monitoring
¨*******Managing relations with borrowers and prospective borrowers
¨*******Servicing individual loans
¨*******Monitoring borrower performance, including mission and social impact
¨*******Reviewing portfolio-wide risks and opportunities

Administration and organizational
¨*******Participating in loan department administration
¨*******Assisting on organizational and BCC projects
¨*******Representing BCLF in public meetings and on working groups
*
Policy and new products
¨*******Participating special research, monitoring, or market analysis projects
¨*******Assisting in the development of new loan products
¨*******Participating in industry initiatives, including National Community Capital Association projects*

Qualifications and Required Skills

The successful candidate will possess, at a minimum, a B.S. or B.A.; a master’s degree is preferred.* Candidates will have a minimum of 3 years of related experience, ideally with a community development financial institution and/or lending or community development finance responsibilities.* Candidates must be able to manage multiple priorities, act independently, and have an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office software.* The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate that she or he has skills and knowledge in the following areas:

¨*******Credit training: Completion of credit training program or comparable lending experience.
¨*******Financial analysis:* Familiarity with financial statement analysis, particularly for non-profit financial statements.* Exposure to basic accounting.
¨*******Community development: Familiarity with community development with emphasis on affordable housing development, neighborhood commercial real estate or community facilities.* Ability to work with early-stage projects and first-time developer or borrower organizations
¨*******Community lending: Experience with affordable housing, commercial real estate, economic development or community facilities financing, including responsibility for making loan recommendations and closing loans.
¨*******Writing and presentations:* Excellent writing and presentation skills, including ability to communicate complicated analysis in a clear and compelling manner.
