The Cooperative Party Goals are impressive. Worth working for.
But, the chance of doing much of it within the current political system is
nil. The Cooperative Commonwealth can be built from the beginning by
working to expand the existingco-op movement. Once there is a solid base of
co-ops is buil, then there might be a chance to move it within the political
system.
Critical to creating a Cooprative Commonwealth is creating Cooperative
Lifelong Learning Communities (CLLCs). By that, we mean replaceing the
school/education system with Community Learning Co-ops. Like food co-ops
these are networks of homeschoolers and other self-learners organized into a
cooperative. Learning Co-ops are owned and operated by the member families.
They may be organized as charter schools, or just stand alone homeschool
co-ops, or othe from of cooperatives depending on the state laws.
Learning Co-ops introduce future citizens to the co-op concept throughout
their most formative years. They can be organized today by groups of
homeschoolers or others moving to escape the confinement of authorotarian,
hierarchical, undemocratic schools that teach the values of the industrial
market society.
Building a cooperative learning system should be a key plank in the
Cooperatives party platform
'A Coaltion for Self-Learning" has produced a book online "Creating Learning
Communities." CLLCS are the core of their ideas. With publication of the
book in early July the Coaltion will be moounting a campaign the popularize
the concept of learning co-ops, and to help put them into pracitce. We
would like to link up with other organizations ready to DO SOMETHING to
enlarge this movement.
If you have information on learning co-ops or want to DO SOMETHING to help
them happen join us on <CCL-LLCs-subscribe@egroups.com>. And/or read the
online version of "Creating Learning Communities" on the book on:
