the Wisconsin Coordinating Council on Nicaragua (WCCN)
WCCN seeks to fill the following full-time staff position at its office
in Madison, Wisconsin:
Alternative Credit Loan Fund Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Loan Fund Manager serves as the primary operations manager of the
Nicaraguan Credit Alternatives Fund (NICA Fund), an alternative credit
program of WCCN which connects socially responsible investors in the US
with economic sectors in Nicaragua that have little access to other
sources of credit. The Loan Fund Manager's primary responsibilities
include: supervise credit decisions and lending activities of the NICA
Fund; supervise portfolio monitoring functions; supervise and carry out
the credit program's administration functions; serve as the primary
liaison to the loan committee; maintain relationships with the NICA
Fund's borrower organizations in Nicaragua including the supervision of
the lending, reporting and payment processes; collaborate with the NICA
Fund representative in Nicaragua; maintain records and production of
reports for investors; and provide creative leadership for this
innovative project.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lending/Administration/Borrower Relations:
€ Implement and ensure compliance with NICA Fund policies, maintaining
and developing the necessary systems to do so.
€ Collaborate with the NICA Fund's representative in Nicaragua in
maintaining relations with actual and potential borrower agencies
including the conducting of due-diligence evaluations of potential
borrower agencies and monitoring the payments and reports of current
borrower agencies.
€ Coordinate activities of WCCN's loan fund oversight committee in its
policy deliberations, lending decisions, and other activities in relation
to WCCN's alternative credit program.
€ Prepare and review all necessary financial statements and other reports
required for WCCN's loan programs and ensure that records of all borrower
relations and other pertinent information are maintained in a coherent
and timely fashion.
€ Ensure NICA Fund's compliance with state securities agencies.
€ Travel to Nicaragua once a year to meet with the NICA Fund
Representative and visit borrower agencies and end-borrowers.
Investor Relations/Outreach:
€ Maintain communication with current and potential investors, including
the preparation of loan agreements, promissory notes, rollover agreements
and other formal legal correspondence with investors.
€ Prepare information and materials needed for payments to investors in
the NICA Fund and the NCDLF, and enter payment information in the
database.
€ Supervise the periodic review and updating of NICA Fund documents and
instruments including the prospectus, policy document, due diligence
evaluation tool, legal documents, and others.
€ Develop relations and networks with organizations in the field of
alternative credit and socially responsible investing. Represent
WCCN/NICA Fund in relevant trade organizations.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:
The Loan Fund Manager reports to the WCCN Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
€ Experience with and knowledge of economic development, microcredit,
and/or community development lending strongly preferred
€ Experience in and knowledge of non-profit organizations including work
with committees, budgeting, organizational planning, coordination and
development, financial statements and accounting principles.
€ Personal commitment to serving the economic needs of low-income people
€ Degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, International
Development, or other relevant field, masters degree preferred
€ International/cross-cultural experience
€ Strong written and verbal communications skills
€ Computer skills, including ability to use databases and spreadsheets
effectively
€ Should have the ability to communicate effectively in written and
spoken Spanish. Familiarity with Nicaraguan culture, history and politics
is helpful but not essential
SALARY/BENEFITS:
Salary: starting in low $30,000 range, final salary dependent upon
qualifications; please provide salary requirements
Benefits: health/dental insurance with HMO; starting with 2.5 weeks
vacation plus holidays
