VanCity Savings Credit Union is a full service financial institution based in
Vancouver British Columbia. We are currently working on a formal
"Accessibility Strategy" which aims to provide improved financial services to
support low-income and marginalized members and communities achieve their
financial goals and move towards economic self reliance.
Through research, one of the many barriers that low income and marginalized
people have while trying to access financial services is that of identification.
They often have insufficient ID to open an account. (IE: Primary ID like a
Driver's License or a Passport and secondary ID like a credit card, interim
Driver's license,Social Insurance Card, Care Card etc).
We are looking for best practices in accepting ID. Practices that allow the
financial institution to serve this market even though the individual may not
have "proper" photo ID. We obviously would still like to keep our risk of
fraud to a minimum.
Any suggestions?
Warm regards
