TRIAL ATTORNEYS / GS-12 to GS-15
The Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice is seeking several experienced attorneys to serve in the Housing and Civil Enforcement Section, located in Washington, D.C.
The Housing Section enforces the federal statutes prohibiting discrimination in housing, credit, and public accommodations, including the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. The Section has sought to create an enforcement presence in all areas of the country and has pursued discrimination cases against a wide variety of defendants. In recent years, the Section has embarked on an ambitious program of the investigation of and litigation against lending institutions for violations of the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act through racial discrimination in mortgage, consumer and business lending. The Section has also implemented a nationwide fair housing testing program aimed at uncovering discrimination which has resulted in numerous federal court cases.
Applicants must possess a J.D. degree, be an active member of the bar (any jurisdiction), and have at least one year of post-J.D. experience. Federal court litigation experience and a demonstrated interest in civil rights are desirable. Applicants must submit a resume, writing sample, and cover letter highlighting relevant experience to:
