[b]JOB ANNOUNCEMENTS
Position Location:* AEO national office in Arlington, Virginia.

[b]Position #1: PROGRAM MANAGER: Applied Research
Position Description: AEO is seeking a creative, energetic and highly motivated individual to advance AEO’s work in data collection and applied research on microenterprise for our members and other interested organizations and individuals.* This work will involve the following activities:
*
· Developing and implementing a system and process for the collection of data on AEO member organizations.* Data to include, but will not be limited to: services provided, populations served, administrative statistics, program performance, etc.
· Working closely with a national AEO partner in the development of this process.
· Working closely with a committee of the AEO Board of Directors in the development of this system.
· Providing staff support to the Research Committee of AEO.
· Developing a system for regular dissemination of the results of this research in printed, on-line and workshop presentation formats.
· Assisting in the development of a national system of microenterprise standards and certification for programs and practitioners.
· Assisting in the planning, writing, coordination and development of research training manuals for AEO.
· Representing AEO on special data collection or research projects.
· Conducting and/or securing trainers to conduct training sessions on microenterprise development research.
· Working as part of a team with all AEO staff on the planning and implementation of AEO’s Annual Conference and Membership Meeting held in May of each year.

Note that this is a new and permanent staff position for AEO and will involve working in a collegial manner with the other AEO staff.

Qualifications:* The ideal candidate will have experience in microenterprise practice and data collection efforts.* Data analyses experience a plus.* The successful candidate will be skilled in consensus-based decision-making, will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and will be a self-starter who can work with minimum supervision.* Strong writing ability and attention to detail is very important.* Candidate should be computer proficient, particularly in word and data processing.* At minimum, the individual should have a college degree; a masters degree in an appropriate field is a plus.* If the individual does not have microenterprise experience then experience in other US non-profit and/or national organizations similar to AEO is quite helpful.

Supervision: This position will be supervised by both the AEO Executive Director and the AEO Program Manager for Membership, Communications and Strategic Alliances.

[b]Position #2: PROGRAM MANAGER: Public Awareness and Fund Development
*
Position Description: AEO is seeking a creative, energetic and highly motivated individual to increase awareness and support of AEO and microenterprise development in the United States through public awareness and fund development efforts.* This position will work 50% on public awareness and 50% on fund development, and will involve the following activities:
*
· Developing and implementing an effective system and process for working with national media (electronic, print, on-line) to obtain exposure and increased awareness for microenterprise development in the US.
· Coordinating the publicity efforts of AEO events including AEO’s policy/advocacy event “Microenterprise Days,” AEO’s Annual Conference and Membership Meeting, and others.
· Maximizing and furthering the publicity and efforts of AEO’s public awareness campaign, “Microenterprise Works.”
· Coordinating the production and development of the quarterly printed AEO Exchange newsletter and AEO electronic newsletter.
· Assisting in the ongoing development of the AEO website.
· Assisting in planning, writing and coordinating the development of training manuals for AEO.
· Researching various grant opportunities for AEO including funding from foundations, corporations and the public sector.
· Identifying funding opportunities for AEO members and disseminating such information to members via AEO’s website, electronic newsletter, etc.
· Writing funding proposals and grant reports.
· Working as part of a team with all AEO staff on the planning and implementation of AEO’s Annual Conference and Membership Meeting held in May of each year.

Qualifications:* The ideal candidate will have experience in fundraising and public relations with a nonprofit organization and/or national association.* The successful candidate will possess excellent oral and written communication skills, and have exceptional writing and editing ability.* Attention to detail extremely important.* Ideal candidate will also be skilled in consensus-based decision-making, and will be a self-starter who can work with minimum supervision.* Candidate should be computer proficient, particularly in word and data processing.* At a minimum, the individual should possess a college degree.* Microenterprise experience a plus.

Supervision: This position will be supervised by the AEO Senior Program Officer.

Salary/Fringe Benefits for both positions:* Salary will be commensurate with experience.* AEO offers a competitive fringe benefit package including full-paid health insurance; employer paid matching retirement (403 b), and a competitive package of annual/personal/sick/holiday leave.* The AEO office is located in the Rosslyn community of Northern Arlington, Virginia within short walking distance of the Washington, DC metro (subway) system.* The AEO office emphasizes a relaxed and productive working environment.

Time frame for both positions:* These positions are open in early February 2001 and will be open until a qualified individual is hired.* Projected starting date for this position is late March/early April 2001.
