DEVELOPMENT FINANCE PORTFOLIO MANAGER
Oxfam America is seeking a Development Finance Portfolio Manager to initiate
and lead a new program starting in early 2000. This post requires a highly
motivated, experienced professional who can bring his or her financial
skills, fundraising talents and international development experience together
to serve as the internal and external advocate for Oxfam America's
development finance/asset accumulation program. As the thematic champion,
the manager will interact with staff at all levels, and will contribute to
the strategic thinking of senior management around issues of development
finance. S/he will play a linking and entrepreneurial role that requires
working across boundaries; with partners and Regional Offices, with Board
members, with donors, with microfinance networks, and with the sophisticated
financial world. S/he would work with program staff to identify and package
a portfolio of partner organizations that seek to capitalize their plans to
scale up and to help design and provide grant support to plans for building
organizational capacity to manage increasing credit and savings services.
The overall aim is to link larger numbers of the poor with access to capital
and other financial and non-financial services. The Portfolio Manager would
work closely with the Fundraising team, senior managers and reports to the
Director, Global Program Department.
The position is based in Boston, but will require travel overseas and in the
U.S. Core competencies include: personal commitment to poverty eradication;
leadership and communications capability; command of the technical tools of
development finance and microfinance; entrepreneurial drive; demonstrated
ability to faise funds; ability to work cross-culturally; and fluency or
working knowledge of Spanish; French or Portuguese desirable.
