Senate Approves $55.5 million for the CDFI Fund in FY 2005
The Senate passed an Omnibus appropriations bill for Fiscal Year 2005
including 9 separate appropriation measures into one bill on November
20. The measure awaits action by the House of Representatives on
December 6 before being sent to President Bush to be signed into law.
In the Omnibus, the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund
appropriation for FY 2005 is $55.522 million. The $55.522 million is
greater than the proposed Senate funding level of $55 million and below
$60.64 million, the House of Representatives proposed FY 2005 funding
level and the actual FY 2004 appropriation. The Native American
Initiatives program received a $4 million dollar set-aside. The
language regarding the Bank Enterprise Award program designated the BEA
program shall receive not less than $10 million in FY 2005.
The exact language can be found on the CDFI Coalition's website at
http://www.cdfi.org/Uploader/Files/CDFI%20Fund%20Final%20Approps%20Langu
age.doc.
The CDFI Coalition appreciates all the hard work of Senator Specter
(R-PA), Senator Corzine (D-NJ), the 48 other Senators supporting the
request for an $80 million appropriation to the CDFI Fund
(http://www.cdfi.org/Uploader/Files/Final05SignOnLetter.pdf), and the
many activists in the CDFI Coalition network that supported the
Coalition's efforts to achieve higher appropriations for the CDFI Fund.
