The Microfinance Unit at UNESCO would be interested to hear
from anyone working in the field of "channeled credit" -
particularly housing finance and group loans for community
development projects such as investments in schools, health
centres, water and sanitation.
In the case of the building of a health centre, for example, have any
projects been carried in which all the costs - from the initial planning
and investment costs to the maintenance and running costs - were met by the
recipients of microfinance or channelled credit? If so,what lessons were
learned from these experiences? Can microfinance serve effectively as a
means of entirely auto-financing community development projects?
