I am looking for models of home mortgage programs offered to those who,
because of immigration status, do not have a SSN. If you are aware of a
mortgage program using ITIN as the identification number, please forward
to contact information.
Many thanks.

The New Alliance Task Force, convened by the Mexican Consulate and FDIC,
is working with banks and community groups to expand access to financial
education, mainstream financial products and services, and college
education for immigrants, including those who are undocumented. Many of
the NATF member banks provide mortgage loans to persons with Individual
Taxpayer Identification Numbers or ITINs. Some banks are also authorized
by the Internal Revenue Service as certifying acceptance agencies who can
accept and process applications for ITINs. For more information, contact
Michael Frias, Community Affairs Officer at FDIC in Chicago, at
312.382.7506 or mfrias@fdic.gov.
Michael Frias wrote an article on immigrant banking issues for
"Representing Immigrant Families," the September-October 2004 special
isssue of the CLEARINGHOUSE REVIEW. Additional articles analyze legal
issues unique to immigrant families and explain how various areas of the
law particularly affect immigrants, covering employment (rights and
barriers, day laborers, and other topics), language access, public
benefits and access to emergency health care, farmworkers and guest worker
proposals, tax issues, and more. This single issue of CLEARINGHOUSE REVIEW
is available for $30 to nonprofit organizations,$60 for others. To order,
call Nancy at 312.263.3830 ext. 223 or email nancycarey@povertylaw.org.
