JOB ANNOUNCEMENT/POSITION DESCRIPTION
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

The Housing Assistance Council, a national nonprofit that works to improve
housing conditions for the rural poor, seeks an energetic, self-directed
research professional with excellent writing skills. The position is
within the Research and Information (R&I) Division, one of HAC's three
divisions. R&I consists of a director, five research associates, a
communications specialist, and two administrative assistants. HAC offers

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Along with other Research and Information Division staff, develops and
continues HAC's research program in accordance with requirements of HAC's
funding sources.

2. Provides up-to-date research information and statistical data to support
activities of the organization.

3. Prepares technical and analytical information on federal housing
legislation, regulations, and instructions related to the housing
conditions and needs of rural low-income residents.

4. Provides technical assistance to local organizations and others seeking
statistics, research information, and other data.

5. Conceptualizes, directs, and/or may raise funds for, research, training,
and informational projects.

6. Helps develop policy on HAC's research needs and publications program.

7. Makes presentations, with pertinent data, at training conferences,
workshops and seminars.

8. Helps in the development of rural housing policy recommendations, drafts
comments on regulations, and drafts congressional testimony, as requested.

9. Helps with press relations and other public relations. Writes
newsletters occasionally.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing at the
levels of HAC's varying audiences, which include housing producers,
policymakers, and researchers.

Demonstrated excellence in social science research and writing.

Experience in social science research design and analysis bearing on policy
and program development.

Experience in computer-assisted social science research including the use
of databases and spreadsheets.

Demonstrated commitment to social justice issues.


Preferred

Masters or Ph.D. in planning, sociology, or a related field.

Demonstrated ability to develop social science research projects
independently and direct them effectively.

Experience with housing programs and issues as they relate to the rural
poor.


SUPERVISION

Responsible to the Director of Research and Information.
