POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

The Association for Enterprise Opportunity (AEO) is seeking an Executive
Director. AEO is the national non-for-profit 501(c)(3) association of
organizations committed to microenterprise development. Founded in 1991,
AEO’s mission is to provide its members with a forum, information, and a
voice to promote enterprise opportunity for people and communities with
limited access to economic resources. AEO represents the United States
microenterprise agenda in both national and international communities.
AEO’s members represent a broad range of national microenterprise programs
and many other organizations who support AEO’s mission, such as financial
institutions, community economic development organizations, housing and
human service agencies, etc.

The Executive Director will represent the organization in the field of
microenterprise development while providing leadership to AEO’s staff and
Board through administrative oversight, organizational and resource
development and formation of strategic alliances. The Executive Director
provides overall management and development of the organization in the
fulfillment of its mission while developing and maintaining member support
programs and policy initiatives.

Job Responsibilities:
· Maintain operational policies, procedures, and programs to institute
effective systems development and to implement the general policies
established by the Board of Directors.
· Effectively recruit, select, orient and manage staff for the national
office and directs all projects and activities in keeping with approved
personnel policies and procedures.
· Stimulates creativity and professional growth among personnel.
· Meet financial objectives by maintaining financial controls and analyzing
financial results while ensuring that all funds are appropriately
safeguarded and administered.
· Develop and sustain close working relationships with other national
organizations that play a critical role in the domestic microenterprise
movement, e.g., CFED, Aspen Institute, RESULTS, FINCA International, among
others.
· Provide for personal/AEO staff contact with the AEO membership and advise
the Board on membership needs and interests in order to create
membership-focused change.
· Ensure the necessary liaison and adequate staff support to committees.
· Execute Board decisions
· Provide "environmental" and operational feedback to the Board of
Directors, and Executive Committee on all important factors influencing the
organization and its mission.

Qualifications:
· Senior management experience with a track record of accomplishments.
· A flexible leadership style that projects a positive and professional image.
· Proven ability to articulate and operationalize a bold vision for the
association.
Extensive experience with microenterprise, community economic development
organizations and/or Community Development Financial Institutions programs,
particularly those with a focus on poverty-alleviation.
· Excellent written and oral communication.
· Strong interpersonal skills.
· Experience and commitment to work with a constituency of diverse ethnic
and socioeconomic backgrounds.
· Ability to balance multiple demands, prioritize tasks and retain clear
focus.
· Demonstrated ability to facilitate collaborative and cooperative working
relationships.
· Experience in developing and implementing federal and state policy.
· Association/member-based organization experience
· Master’s Degree preferred in Organizational Development, Non-Profit
Management, Public Policy, or Business Administration.

Location:
The Executive Director may be based at the Association for Enterprise
Opportunity’s national office in Washington D.C.
