New Year's greetings to all from the National Federation of Community
Development Credit Unions in New York City.

Taking a cue from Bill Myers, our list's moderator, I'd like to share our
plans for 1999, the 25th Anniversary Year of the National Federation.

JUNE 17-20, 1999 will be the signature event of our year, the 25th Anniversary
Meeting of the National Federation, at the Marriott World Trade Center. Our
theme is Worldview: CDCUs Face the 21st Century. The meeting will include
four days of site visits, briefings, major addressess (confirmed: Ralph Nader
speaking on Global Wealth, Global Poverty, and the Role of CDCUs; pending:
Rev. Jesse Jackson), and more. We are in the process of developing panels on
"comparative credit union experience" around the world, including the
Carribbean, Latin America, England, Eastern Europe, and Africa. Suggestions
of speakers are especially welcome.

Also of interest:
April 21-25: NFCDCU initiatives the Community Development Credit Union
Institute, the first comprehensive training program in the U.S. designed
specifically for the credit unions that serve low-income communities. It's a
three-year program, including two on-campus weeks annually (1999 sessions will
be held at New Hampshire College, Manchester, NH). The New Hampshire College
Community Economic Development Program and the Credit Union National
Association's Center for Professional Development are collaborating with us in
a unique program that aims to impart credit union management skills along with
training in community economic development.

The First International Latino Credit Union Conference to be held on U.S. soil
is scheduled for San Antonio, Texas (Oct. 2-4, 1999; dates and location are
not yet finalized). Credit unions serving Latino populations throughout the
United States will be joined by CUs from the Carribbean, Central and South
America to compare experiences and discuss common issues.
