Eight new books available from Pact Publications.

1. "An Institutional Guide for Enterprise Development Organizations:
Facilitators Manual", The SEEP Network/Pact; $27.00; 274pp; 1996 .

This companion manual to "An Institutional Guide for Enterprise Development
Organizations" contains 25 distinct training sessions that address a variety of
themes in the guidebook and is intended to support those who provide technical
assistance in institutional development issues. The five modules -
introduction, vision, capacity, resources, and linkages - correspond to the
"Components" axis of the Framework in the Guide. Each module contains training
sessions covering topics from the "Components".

2. "Moving Forward: Emerging Strategies for Sustainability and Expansion"
SEEP/Pact Publications; $15.00; 96pp; 1996

In 1995 small planning grants were given to a sample of SEEP members and their
partners for activities that would propel programs and institutions to the next
stage of growth. The grants were used to engage in strategic and business
planning, conduct feasibility studies and operational reviews, develop
diagnostic tools and improve loan management systems. This document outlines
the agenda for action that agencies are pursuing on the path of evolution,
innovation and growth. Summaries of grantees' activities are included as an
appendix.

3. "Moving Forward: Tools for Sustainability and Expansion"; SEEP/Pact;

This supporting document to Moving Forward: Emerging Strategies for
Sustainability and Expansion provides practitioners with tools for the
expansion of microenterprise programs. The manual includes: Operational Review,
Decision-Making Framework, and Framework for Designing a Financial Management
Information System, and Expansion Strategy Built on Business Planning..

4. "Village Banking; The State of Practice"; The SEEP Network; $12.95; 94pp;
1995

This revised edition begins with a summary of village banking's historical
evolution, including a statistical profile of featured programmes. It then
examines the methodology in detail, comparing the original model to its
numerous adaptations. Organizational development issues and challenges at each
level ? village bank, implementing agency and northern NGO ? are discussed with
a special focus on self-sufficiency. Next the monograph analyzes the impact of
village banking based on existing evaluation. The final section presents the
principles and standards that the practitioner community has adopted in an
effort to establish guidelines that will best serve the long-term needs of
their clients.


5. "Financial Ratio Analysis of Micro-finance Institutions"; The SEEP Network/

This framework focuses on the measures necessary to assess the self-sufficiency
and efficiency of financial services programs, and the quality of credit
portfolios.

6. "Management Science for Organizational Development"; Richard J. Van Ness,
Ph.D.; Pact Publications; $25.00; 242pp; 1996

The purpose of this book is to provide an organizational development guidance
system for entrepreneurs, managers, and students. Chapter 1 discusses a method
of analyzing problem situations and provides specific leadership techniques to
assure the highest quality of decision making. Chapter 2 addresses, in detail,
14 "illness symptoms" that are common to organizations. Chapter 3 provides a
hands on approach to the budget process and illustrates how to prepare the 11
essential budgets. Chapter 4 offers a concise review of contemporary human
resource management topics. Chapter 5 addresses strategic planning and includes
a system for conducting a detailed internal audit. Chapter 6 discusses

models.

7. "Financial Management Training Modules"; Calmeadow/Pact
"Module I: Accounting : Study Guide"; $35.00; 146pp; 1996

This module covers the basics of accounting as related to micro-finance
organizations. It explains how transactions are recorded and summarized, and
teaches students how the balance sheet, income statement, and the statement of
changes in financial position are created. After completing this module,
students should have a basic understanding of accounting principles,
methodologies, and procedures which will aid them in using accounting data as a
tool for financial management. This study guide is for self-study or in-class

This module covers topics such as: the principles of credit (cash patterns of
borrowers, loan terms, and pricing); breakeven analysis; ratio analysis;
delinquency management; cash flow management; and budgeting. Students will gain
a practical understanding of financial management and how it affects and helps
decision making at the branch and organizational levels. They will also
understand how credit and forced savings affect clients, and how to design or
tailor loan products to meet clients needs effectively. This study guide is for
